Class Description | This course will serve as an introduction to comparative library and information service (LIS) in an international context. Students will study and discuss the social, political, cultural and economic influences on libraries and other information organizations. Themes will include the development of LIS and the various approaches taken to information services, library and information education and the values and philosophies of memory organization in select regions of the world. Trans-national information policies and global cooperation among library organizations is also a topic of study. Learning methods include reading discussion, guest speakers, online research and an interactive social media component.
