Selection and Enrollment on the Rise for WISE

As WISE (Web-enabled Information Science Education) begins its second year this fall, the program will see significant increases in student enrollment and in the number and diversity of classes offered. Fifty-one students have registered for a selection of 30 classes, which are offered via a distance-learning format to students in the information science programs of the WISE’s 13 member schools.

In Spring 2005, the WISE (Web-based Information Science Education) Consortium began hosting a series of face-to-face workshops and online classes for Library and Information Science (LIS) educators interested in teaching in the online mode.
Workshops and classes will be taught by experienced LIS online instructors and instructional designers. All sessions will be highly interactive, and full engagement by participants is essential to their success.

Administrators from the WISE founding member schools (the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University & the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) convened with potential member schools on January 11, 2005, during the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) 2005 Annual Conference, for an organizational meeting.
Following the organizational meeting, Pat Lawton, Visiting Coordinator of Instructional Design at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, facilitated a pedagogy session open to all ALISE attendees.
