WISE Faculty Development Opportunities for LIS Online Educators (ongoing) In Spring 2005, the WISE (Web-based Information Science Education) Consortium began hosting a series of face-to-face workshops and online classes for Library and Information Science (LIS) educators interested in teaching in the online mode.
Workshops and classes will be taught by experienced LIS online instructors and instructional designers. All sessions will be highly interactive, and full engagement by participants is essential to their success.
- FREE face-to-face workshops on online pedagogy to be held in January 2006 in San Antonio, Texas (during ALISE 2006 Conference).

- FREE day of face-to-face sessions on online pedagogy at the ALA 2005 Annual Conference were held in Chicago at the McCormick Place Convention Center . The WISE Workshops on Online Pedagogy entitled "Conversations on Learning and Teaching Online" were held on Monday, June 27, 2005 from 9:00am - 5:00pm at the University of Chicago Gleacher Center (450 North Cityfront Plaza Dr., Rooms 308 + 320).

- FREE online teaching module "Introduction to Online Pedagogy", which was conducted June 13-25, 2005 and again August 8-20, 2005. This course provided a comprehensive introduction to teaching in the online mode. Among the issues covered were: key considerations for teaching and learning online, developing an effective course and syllabus, engaging the learner, and creating community online. Faculty development activities aimed toward enhancing quality online pedagogy in LIS are available through the support of a two-year grant from the Institute for Museum & Library Services (IMLS). Through August 2006, these sessions will be available at no charge to individuals affiliated with an LIS program. Enrollment in the face-to-face and online classes will be limited, and pre-registration will be required.
